JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla yesterday hinted at more “big names” that could be implicated in the ongoing investigation of the sabungeros or “cockfighting enthusiasts” who have been missing since 2021.
Remulla issued the statement after information surfaced that a witness who goes by the alias “Totoy” had disclosed that a “celebrity” belonging to the “alpha group” was behind the abduction and presumed killings of the missing sabungeros.
“I cannot comment on that since we have to validate a lot of things,” he said.
“But there are others,” he added on whether there are other big names allegedly involved in the case.
Last week, Remulla said government officials were involved in the case of the missing sabungeros.
Remulla said this was among the revelations made by “Totoy.” But he declined to identify the officials, saying an investigation and a case build-up are ongoing.
Remulla acknowledged the difficulties in unraveling the case and those behind it, but he said the DOJ will leave no stone unturned in its investigation.
The DOJ chief earlier said the DOJ was taking seriously the claim of alias Totoy that the victims missing since 2021 were killed and dumped at Taal Lake.
He said the revelation is credible but stressed the information needs to be thoroughly reviewed.
Remulla also said the DOJ has sent a request to the Japanese government for technical assistance in searching Taal Lake to locate the supposed remains of the missing sabungeros.
Remulla previously said the DOJ will ask for remotely operated vehicles from the Japanese government.
Remulla said the DOJ will also tap Navy divers to search the waters of Taal Lake.
