The Department of Justice (DOJ) has granted “protected witness” status to contractors Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya and Cezarah “Sara” Discaya and three former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineers, Justice secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Wednesday.

The former DPWH engineers granted protection are former Bulacan first district engineer Henry Alcantara and former assistant district engineers Brice Ericson Hernandez and Jaypee Mendoza.

Remulla announced the decision after Hernandez and Mendoza went to the DOJ as part of their evaluation for the Witness Protection Program.

“They are now considered protected witnesses,” he said.

“We have sent a letter to the Senate President about that status, and hopefully, we can talk about that tomorrow (Thursday) morning,” he added.
