THE Department of Health (DOH) yesterday called on all Filipinos to join the launch of the nationwide drive to search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites amid the surge in dengue cases.
In a social media post, the health department said the “Nationwide Search and Destroy Mosquito Breeding Sites Kick-off Event for Dengue Prevention and Control” set today, Monday, at 4 p.m., is not limited to government offices.
“Everyone is invited to join the ‘Alas Kwatro, Kontra Mosquito’ in a bid to systematically destroy mosquito-breeding sites,” said the DOH.
Earlier, the DOH announced holding the activity across all government offices nationwide.
All DOH regional offices have been tasked to spearhead the conduct of such activities in the government offices in their respective areas.
But, the DOH also added that the aggressive drive is not only limited to government offices as it called on all Filipinos to join the drive.
“This nationwide initiative aims to strengthen our collective efforts in controlling the spread of dengue by identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sites, which are critical in reducing the prevalence of the disease,” said the DOH in its memorandum.
Earlier, the DOH reported that a total of 43,732 dengue cases have been recorded from January 1 to February 15.
The number is 56 percent higher than the 27,995 cases recorded in the same period last year.
