THE Department of Health (DOH) yesterday said it is prepared to face the proposed Senate investigation over the surge of leptospirosis cases during the recent flooding in several parts of the country.

In a short statement, DOH Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo said they are willing to work with the senators to find a better solution to the leptospirosis problem.

“The DOH looks forward to working with all of our legislators in their advocacies for better health for all Filipinos,” said Domingo.

Over the weekend, Sen. Raffy Tulfo filed Senate Resolution No. 75, which seeks to investigate the surge of leptospirosis cases in flood-prone areas in the country.

Tulfo underscored the need for the government to establish a comprehensive strategic mapping system that will identify barangays or areas with high incidences of leptospirosis.

Based on the latest data from the health department, a total of 3,752 leptospirosis cases had been recorded from June 8 to August 14.

The DOH, however, noted that the leptospirosis cases recorded per day have gone down to 10 from August 10 to 14, lower than the 200 cases per day reported from August 3 to 9.

Despite this, the department said the 49 leptospirosis fast lanes will remain operational in DOH hospitals.
