THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday warned seafarers against unscrupulous individuals posing as representatives of legitimate manning agencies on social media.

In a social media post, the DMW said seafarers must be vigilant against entities attempting to recruit them and seeking payment via bank transfer.

“The DMW is warning the public against illegal recruiters using names of license manning agencies to victimize seafarers,” the department said.

“Such scams usually occur on social media platforms. They are most common on Facebook,” it added.

DMW said it is issuing the warning after receiving reports that a certain Christal Clarito Rosales and Anne Aguiree Mendoza are making false claims that they represent a licensed manning agency, particularly the Interorient Maritime Enterprises Inc.

“They are asking for a huge amount from their victims via bank transfer supposedly for their visa fees for US, Australia, or Schengen areas,” said DMW.

Instead of falling for such offers, the department urged the public to report them via the Facebook page of the DMW Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons Program or email to airtipinfo@dmw.gov.ph.

“Avoid being victimized by scammers and immediately report such cases,” the DMW warned.
