THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday assured the eight Filipino seafarers detained and eventually released in Malaysia of full assistance from the government.
In a statement, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said they will continue to support the eight Filipino crew members of the vessel MT Krishna 1.
“We will closely monitor their reintegration now that they have returned. We will continue to provide them assistance,” said Cacdac.
Last April 11, the eight Filipino seafarers, along with 12 others, were held for allegedly entering Malaysia without passports and valid documents.
Seven days later, the eight Filipinos were released by Malaysian authorities and on Monday, April 20, they were safely repatriated from Malaysia.
“Upon their return, the seafarers were provided with financial assistance from the DMW,” said Cacdac.
The Filipino seafarers were also provided with learning vouchers from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for skills training for other job opportunities.
