THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday called on overstaying overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to avail of the extended amnesty program of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a phone interview, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said they are hopeful that UAE OFWs will take advantage of the extension of the amnesty program.
“Filipinos who are covered by the amnesty are encouraged to avail of the program,” said Cacdac.
“The extension of the UAE amnesty program up to December 31, 2024 will help amnesty seekers adjust their status,” he added.
The DMW chief said the extension is a laudable move from the UAE government.
“The extension of two months is an embodiment of the humanitarian and civilized values of the country,” added Cacdac.
The UAE government had announced a two-month visa amnesty program from September 1 to October 31.
The program gives individuals residing illegally in the country to either regularize their residency status or leave the UAE without incurring penalties.
The UAE government later said the amnesty program had been extended to December 31 due to the high turnout of applicants.
