THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday said it will provide legal assistance to the six Filipino domestic workers who were arrested and detained in Hong Kong last Sunday.
In a social media post, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said they are now coordinating with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO)-Hong Kong for the provision of legal aid and visitations to the detained overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
“The DMW-MWO is in coordination to provide legal assistance and visitations to the detention facility,” said Cacdac.
Earlier, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong disclosed that the six OFWs were arrested and detained by the Hong Kong Immigration Department for breach of condition of stay by engaging in unapproved employment and pretending to be dentists.
Cacdac said they are also in contact with the families of the detained OFWs.
“We are also reaching out to their families because the DMW is prepared to provide them the necessary support and assistance,” said Cacdac.
