AMID reports that search operations have been called off, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday said efforts to account for the 13 other Filipino crew members of the M/V Eternity C continue.
In a statement, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said they continue their efforts to find the 13 Filipino seafarers reported to be either killed, missing, or abducted by Houthi rebels.
“The DMW, in coordination with the Philippine Embassy, the Department of Foreign Affairs, shipowners, and licensed manning agencies, continues to exhaust all efforts to account for the missing crew members,” he added.
In the meantime, the DMW chief said they are maintaining close contact with the families of the unaccounted-for Filipino crew members and have committed to providing care for them.
“Our officials immediately met with the families via video conference calls and conducted personal visits in their homes across the country over these last two weeks,” Cacdac said.
“We shall sustain these personal assurances of support and assistance until they are reunited with their families,” he added.
Earlier, the MV Eternity C, which has 21 Filipino crew members, was attacked twice by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea.
Eight of the Filipino crew members of MV Eternity C have been rescued and safely repatriated.
The other 13 Filipino seafarers remain unaccounted for as reports surfaced that some were killed while others remain missing.
Subsequently, reports came out that the search efforts for the unaccounted crew members have been called off.
