THE remains of deceased overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Jenny Sanchez Alvarado are being eyed for repatriation this Thursday.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said it has coordinated with its private shipping service provider in Kuwait to hasten the repatriation of Alvarado’s remains.
“In the meantime, the indicative date for Jenny’s arrival is on Thursday,” Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said in an interview.
“We will provide further details on this, and we have conveyed this information to her family,” he added.
The remains of Alvarado were scheduled to arrive in the country from Kuwait last January 10.
When the casket was opened, however, the family said it was the wrong cadaver.
It turned out the remains shipped to the country were those of a Nepali co-worker of Alvarado in Kuwait.
Cacdac said he had apologized to the family of Alvarado over the mix-up.
“I personally went to them to apologize. I apologize over the unfortunate incident,” said Cacdac.
He said the Department is investigating the circumstances behind the mix-up and looking at possible liabilities.
“We have tasked our lawyers on the ground, our labor attache, to study carefully the matter, whether there are liabilities involved here. So we are waiting for the full report,” said Cacdac.
