FILIPINO workers repatriated from Israel may have European nations as their next destinations.
This as the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday said it plans to deploy repatriated caregivers and hotel workers from Israel to the European market.
“We have a plan for our caregivers and hotel workers (from Israel) … We are coordinating it with our policy cluster for the demands of the European markets,” said DMW Undersecretary Felicitas Bay in a press briefing.
She said 1,100 OFWs and 30 dependents have already been repatriated from Israel since hostilities escalated in the area in October 2023.
Of the total OFWs, 949 were employed as caregivers while the other 151 are hotel workers.
“All these were prompted by the voluntary repatriation program since Israel is under Alert Level 2,” said Bay.
Aside from overseas employment facilitation, the DMW official said they continue to offer repatriated OFWs from Israel several types of assistance.
Bay said DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration both offer financial assistance amounting to P75,000 from each of the agencies.
Other types of assistance offered are psychosocial counselling from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, medical assistance from the Department of Health, and skills training scholarship from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
To note, there are an estimated 30,000 OFWs in Israel.
