SIX new Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) are being eyed by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) this year to make its services more accessible to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

In a television interview, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said they are looking to establish up to 10 additional MWOs for 2025, if possible.

“We plan to open up at least six new Migrant Workers Offices worldwide,” said Cacdac.

“It can go up to eight and even 10 if the budget allows,” he added.

An MWO is the overseas operating arm of the DMW tasked to protect the rights and promote the welfare of OFWs.

Last year, the Department opened three new MWOs in Bangkok, Thailand; Vienna, Austria; and Budapest, Hungary. There are currently 41 MWOs across the globe.

Government estimates showed that 2.16 million Filipinos were working abroad from April to September 2023.

The personal remittances of Filipinos abroad reached an all-time high of $38.34 billion for the full year 2024, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
