OVERSEAS Filipino workers (OFWs) will now be allowed to be deployed to the Republic of Rwanda after the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) removed the East African nation from the country’s list of restricted labor markets.

In its Advisory No. 38-2024, the DMW said OFWs who would be deployed to Rwanda are those under the professionals and skilled workers category.

“The public is hereby advised that the processing and deployment of Filipino professionals and skilled workers bound for the Republic of Rwanda may now proceed,” said the DMW.

The Department said the go-signal comes after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) issued a Certificate of Compliance (COC) in favor of the Republic of Rwanda.

It noted that the COC ensures that Rwanda is compliant with the guarantees required for the protection of the rights of overseas Filipino workers as required by Republic Act No. 10022 or the amended Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995.

“The COC confirms the existence of labor and social laws related to the protection of migrant workers in Rwanda as well as it being a State party to relevant international labor and human rights treaties,” said the DMW.

Records show that there are less than 100 OFWs currently based in Rwanda.
