THE Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) yesterday denounced the fake news that quoted Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla as announcing the suspension of classes and work in government offices in certain areas today due to inclement weather.
“This is fake news. We clarify that no such announcement was made by the DILG Secretary,” the DILG said in a statement.
The statement singled out the Facebook page “Philippines Weather Advisory” which said: “Government work and classes in all levels are still suspended, both public and private, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in the following areas due to inclement weather.”
Similar messages were also posted on Facebook quoting Remulla as saying classes were suspended for Wednesday in 20 areas, including Metro Manila, Aurora, Quezon, Rizal, Laguna, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Batangas, and Cavite.
These were the same areas covered by the government suspension of classes and work yesterday due to the anticipated inclement weather. This was announced by Remulla last Sunday afternoon.
“The Department of the Interior and Local Government strongly denounces the false information circulating online claiming that Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced the suspension of work and classes on August 27, 2025 in several areas of the country,” the DILG said.
“We warn the public that the Facebook page ‘Philippines Weather Advisory’ has repeatedly posted misleading information. We urge our kababayans to be alert, discerning, and to rely only on official government channels for accurate updates,” it added.
The DILG said it is considering pursuing legal actions against the people behind the fake news, noting that “false advisories endanger public safety and erode trust in government institutions.”
“We call on everyone to stop the spread of unverified information and to help us build a safer and more informed Bagong Pilipinas,” the DILG said.
