INTERIOR Secretary Jonvic Remulla has warned the public against people impersonating him to solicit funds through social media.
“We received reports that some persons have been impersonating me on various social media and messaging apps for nefarious purposes,” Remulla said in a statement on Tuesday night.
Remulla declared that he is not engaged in any solicitation of funds or has authorized anyone to make any solicitation on his behalf.
“Please be advised that I am not engaged, nor have I authorized any person to engage in such solicitations,” said Remulla.
“If you have received – or should you receive – any such requests, please do not entertain them and report the incident immediately to 09688783561,” he added.
Last January 16, Remulla told a radio interview that an individual scammed former Ilocos Gov. Chavit Singson of P150,000 using his name and his picture.
The individual called Singson using a number accompanied by a picture of Remulla, prompting Singson to answer the call.
Remulla said the caller used an Artificial Intelligence voice during the call.
The impostor claimed he was Remulla and that he was in Mindoro at that time. Remulla said the caller requested P150,000 from Singson.
Remulla said Singson had the amount transferred since he was convinced the caller was indeed Remulla, adding Singson called him after the fund transfer to check if he had received the amount.
Remulla told Singson that he did not request any amount from him and that he was not in Mindoro that day. Remulla told Singson that he was in Malacanang almost the entire day that day.
