INTERIOR Secretary Jonvic Remulla told former PNP Drug Enforcement Group chief Brig. Gen. Narciso Domingo to face the charges against him over the controversial drug raid in Manila in 2022 that resulted in the seizure of 990 kilos of shabu worth P6.7 billion.
Remulla issued the challenge last Monday night, two days after Domingo criticized the DILG chief and National Police Commission Vice Chairman Ricardo Bernabe III for filing charges of planting evidence and bungling the drug case.
Domingo, in his Facebook account last Friday, said Remulla and Bernabe accepted hook, line and sinker the testimonies of Senior M/Sgt. Sergeant Rodolfo Mayo and his bosses, who he said are involved in illegal drugs.
Mayo owned the lending firm where the shabu was found by policemen during a raid in Tondo, Manila in October 2022.
Mayo was set free after the raid. However, police operatives declared that they arrested him in a “follow-up” operation in Quiapo, Manila while in possession of two kilos of shabu worth P13.6 million.
Mayo and 29 other active and former policemen, including Domingo and former PNP deputy chief for operations Lt. Gen. Benjamin Santos, were charged with planting evidence and bungling the case.
A Manila court has ordered the arrest of the 29 policemen, including Domingo and former PNP deputy chief for operations Lt. Gen. Benjamin Santos.
Twenty-one of the 29 cops are already in the custody of authorities. The eight others are at large, including Domingo and Santos.
“I do not have the time or the patience to sit around and argue with you. Your future is in your hands,” Remulla told Domingo.
Remulla said it is up to Domingo if he does not want to surrender and face the charges against him.
Remulla said Domingo should not take the manhunt operation against him personally, adding Domingo would be allowed to defend himself.
“That is your right,” said Remulla.
