THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) yesterday said the three Filipinos injured in the recent crash of a tourist bus in New York have been discharged from the hospital.

Citing a report from the Philippine Consulate General in New York, the DFA said the three have been “medically cleared” by hospital authorities and “confirmed to be safe.”

The three are working in Qatar and were visiting New York as tourists.

“A consulate representative will meet them to ascertain their needs and ensure their welfare until their scheduled departure,” the DFA added.

The DFA earlier said the Consulate General is closely monitoring developments on the tourist bus accident.

DFA spokesperson Angelica Escalona, in a radio interview, also said the three are safe.

“Yes, that’s the good news we received. They are doing well now,” Escalona told DZBB.

New York authorities said the 54 passengers of the tourist bus sustained injuries when the vehicle flipped on its side after coming from Niagara Falls.

Niagara Falls is a major tourist destination on the US-Canada border.

Five people were killed in the accident.
