EDUCATION Secretary Sonny Angara yesterday said the department will open more plantilla positions for legal and procurement staff to ensure effective services in its offices nationwide.
Angara made the remarks after meeting with officials of the DepEd Human Resources and Organizational Development strand last Monday, where the issue was discussed.
“Layunin nito na mas mapahusay ang operasyon ng mga paaralan, mapabilis ang delivery ng learning materials at equipment, at higit na masuportahan ang ating mga guro sa kanilang mga tungkulin (The goal here is to further ensure the effectiveness of our schools, fast track the delivery of learning materials and equipment, and provide the necessary support to our teachers in doing their job),” Angara said.
Earlier, the Department of Budget and Management opened 666 new positions in DepEd for lawyers, legal assistants, and administrative officers.
Angara previously said they are also fast-tracking the hiring of 20,000 new teachers after getting the green light from Malacanang and the DBM.
By augmenting the teaching workforce, Angara said the DepEd aims to gradually improve teacher-student ratios and optimize class sizes, which are critical factors in improving learning outcomes.
He said the DepEd is also hiring 10,000 administrative personnel this year.
The hiring of the non-teaching personnel, according to Angara, will enhance the administrative efficiency of school operations, allowing teachers to concentrate on classroom instruction.
