Dengue cases decreasing

The Department of Health (DOH) yesterday reported a 23 percent drop in the number of dengue cases in the country after the surge seen in the early part of the year.

In a social media post, the DOH attributed the decrease to its intensified drive to remove mosquito-breeding sites, referring to the “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito” campaign.

It said 12,050 cases were recorded from March 2 to 15, down to 9,289 the period of March 16 to 29.

Despite the drop, the DOH urged the public not to be complacent.

“We expect that dengue cases will climb once again after the dry season, when the rainy season comes in July and August,” it said.

Dengue is a viral infection that spreads from mosquitoes to people, and is more common in tropical and subtropical climates.
