DESPITE his arrest last Sunday, Lejun dela Cruz remains one of the nominees of the Magsasaka party-list in the May 2025 polls.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the status of Dela Cruz as the third nominee of the Du faction of the Magsasaka party-list is unchanged.

“He remains to be a nominee of the party-list,” Comelec chief Geore Garcia said in an interview yesterday, explaining that the twin murder cases faced by Dela Cruz are not grounds for his disqualification.

The poll chief added that getting arrested is not tantamount to disqualification as a candidate since it is not yet “a final conviction against him.”

Police arrested Dela Cruz last Sunday in Pasig City due to the two counts of murder charges he is facing.

The PNP said it would also file complaints against De la Cruz for illegal gun possession, frustrated homicide, violation of the election gun ban, and malicious mischief.

Dela Cruz is the third nominee of the Magsasaka party-list (Du faction) based on the Certificate of Nomination filed by the group to the Comelec.

Under the Omnibus Election Code, any person, who has been “sentenced by final judgment for subversion, insurrection, rebellion or for any offense for which he has been sentenced to a penalty of more than 18 months, or for a crime involving moral turpitude,” shall be disqualified to be a candidate.
