THE death toll from tropical cyclones “Crising,” “Dante,” and “Emong” and the southwest monsoon has risen to 37, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
The 34 previously reported deaths were recorded in the National Capital Region (nine), Calabarzon (eight), Western Visayas (six), Negros Island Region or NIR (three), Northern Mindanao (three), Central Luzon (two), Mimaropa (one), Davao (one) and Caraga (one).
The NDRRMC said the number of affected families in 17 regions is now at
2,121,645 families (7,685,943 persons).
Of the total population affected, 237,507 families (905,075 persons) have been displaced. However, the number was down to 53,660 families (194,200 persons) as of yesterday.
Of the still-displaced, 30,072 families (105,466 persons) are housed at 1,037 evacuation centers and 23,588 families (88,734 persons) are staying with their relatives or friends.
A total of 441 areas in three regions are still flooded as of yesterday — 220 in Central Luzon, 201 in Ilocos and 20 in Calabarzon, the NDRRMC said.
It said P763.69 million worth of assistance have been already provided to 964,943 families.
The number of cities and municipalities under state of calamity also rose to 241 — 73 in Calabarzon, 47 in Central Luzon, 32 each in Ilocos and NIR, 28 in Mimaropa, 19 in Western Visayas, nine in NCR and one in Central Visayas.
Some P866.6 million worth of food and non-food relief items have been distributed to about 2.3 million affected families (8.4 million people), said the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
This includes the P800.7 million from the DSWD, P49.9 million from local government units, P3.1 million from non-governmental organizations, and P12.74 million from other partners. – With Jocelyn Montemayor
