THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) yesterday reported another fatality as authorities continue relief operations for those affected by tropical cyclones “Nika,” “Ofel” and “Pepito.”

The additional fatality, who is from Central Luzon, brought to 14 the death toll from the three weather disturbances which have affected over four million people in eight regions.

As of Sunday, there were 13 deaths from the three cyclones — seven in Cagayan Valley, four in Central Luzon, and two in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Of the 14 deaths, the NDRRMC said five have been validated to be directly related to the tropical cyclones while the nine others are still “for validation.”

The NDRRMC said two persons remain missing, both in Cagayan Valley.

It said the three tropical cyclones affected 1,142,532 families or 4,210,045 individuals in 7,710 barangays in the eight regions — Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and CAR.

Of the number, 592,858 families or 2,132,204 individuals were displaced. As of yesterday morning, the figure was down to 47,052 families or 167,288 individuals.

Thirty-five cities and municipalities in four regions have been placed under a state of calamity.

The NDRRMC said six areas – five in Central Luzon and one in Bicol – are still flooded.

It also said 35 areas, mostly in Bicol, were still experiencing power interruption as of yesterday.

Some P364.47 million in assistance has been provided to those affected by the three tropical cyclones, the NDRRMC also said.
