THE Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the release of P30.41 billion to support the regular pension requirements of military and uniformed personnel (MUP) for the first quarter of this year.
“For many of the MUP retirees and their families, pensions are a lifeline that ensure their daily needs are met, for the purchase of medicine or food,” Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said in a statement yesterday.
“We understand how important it is for our pensioners to receive their benefits. That is why, as soon as the necessary documents were completed, we promptly signed the release of the budget to the concerned agencies,” she added.
The P30.41 billion fund is chargeable against the Pension and Gratuity Fund under Republic Act No. 12116 or the 2025 General Appropriations Act.
According to the DBM, a total of P16.752 billion has been released to the Armed Forces of the Philippines – General Headquarters-Proper and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office under the Department of National Defense.
Meanwhile, P13.297 billion has likewise been released to the attached agencies of the Department of Interior and Local Government, such as the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and National Police Commission.
The DBM released a total of P8.53 million for the pensioners under the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Funding requirements for the payment of pensions to the retired uniformed personnel of the Department of Transportation-Philippine Coast Guard for the same period amounted to P350.68 million.
The fund releases are based on the actual pension payroll submitted by the above-mentioned MUP agencies as of December 31, 2024, the DBM said.
