THE National Bureau of Immigration (NBI) has filed cybercrime and trafficking charges against an immigration officer after he allegedly cleared three passengers with suspected falsified documents to fly out of the country.
Primary Inspector Immigration Officer Mohammad Rashed Madale Alonto, who is at large, was charged with violation of Section 4(b)(1)(i) of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, and Section 5(e) of The Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office.
The NBI said Alonto, on August 20, initially cleared the three passengers to depart from Manila to Hong Kong, as shown by the Departure BIBS Stamps on their boarding passes, despite the dubious documents they presented.
“In their statements, the arrested passengers revealed that Immigration Officer Alonto was the one who initially cleared them during the immigration process,” the NBI said.
The three individuals were later intercepted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 while they were about to depart for Hongkong after they were flagged by operatives of the BI Border Control and Intelligence Unit for presenting suspected falsified overseas employment contracts.
They were initially turned over by the BI to the custody of the NAIA Task Force Against Trafficking, Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking and later handed over to the NBI for further investigation.
“All three individuals disclosed that they had been recruited through a social media platform to work in Cambodia as customer service representatives,” the NBI said.
The three were also presented to the Pasay city prosecutors office for inquest proceeding for violation of Article 172 (Use of Falsified Document) of the Revised Penal Code.
