AMID the uncertainty over the conduct of the December 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday announced the resumption of voter registration activities next month.

Elections chairman George Garcia said the Comelec en banc has approved the holding of voter registration activities from August 1 to 10.

“We will be conducting voter registration from August 1 to 10 in the whole country,” Garcia said, adding that holding the 10-day voter registration period is necessary to ensure that those looking to vote in the village and youth polls will be given the opportunity, especially those who belong to the 15 to 17 year-old bracket.

“Until now, we are waiting if the BSKE will be postponed or not. The problem is, if it pushes through on December 1 and we have not conducted voter registration, we won’t have voters, especially in the 15 to 17 years old age group,” said Garcia.

He also clarified that those who will apply for voter registration in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) won’t be included in the voters list for the parliamentary elections scheduled on October 13.

“We will have voter registration activities in the BARMM but those that will register won’t be able to vote in the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections as this voter registration period is for the BSKE,” he explained.

The proposed bill setting the terms of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials has not yet been signed by President Bongbong Marcos Jr. The enactment of the measure will result in the postponement of the BSKE from December 1, 2025 to the first Monday of November 2026.
