THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday said it is looking to resume voter registration activities just two months after the May 2025 national and local polls.
In a media forum in Manila, Comelec chairman George Garcia said they are eyeing to resume voter registration activities sometime in July or August in time for the December 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
“Hopefully, we will be able to hold voter registration nationwide for 10 days, around July or August,” Garcia said, adding that this may already net an additional one million voters.
“Because it is only 10 days, we may just have 1 million to 1.2 million voters,” he also said.
Asked if the new voter registrants will be included in the October 2025 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE), the poll chief answered in the negative.
“Vote registration is more than the act of registering. It has other processes, like Election Registration Board (ERB) hearings. There may not be enough time,” Garcia said.
The last voter registration held by the Comelec ran from February 12 to September 30, 2024.
For the May 2025 polls, there are 68,431,965 registered voters.
