THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday extended the pre-voting enrolment period for overseas voters casting their votes via the Online Voting and Counting System (OVCS) for three more days, from May 7 to May 10.
In its Minute Resolution No. 25-0544, the Comelec en banc said: “The Commission resolves to approve the request of the Office for Overseas Voting (OFOV) to extend the pre-voting enrollment period from 07 May 2025 to 10 May 2025, 11:59 PM (Philippine time).”
The poll body said the extension is necessary due to the low turnout, with only 134,474 pre-voting enrollees with the OVCS as of May 3.
“Said number represents only 11.01 percent of the total registered overseas voters falling under OVCS Posts (1,220,942),” said the Comelec.
The Commission added: “The OFOV has received multiple requests for an extension of the pre-voting enrollment period from Posts, and from various Filipino communities abroad.”
The Comelec opened the pre-voting enrolment period for the OVCS on March 20 and was supposed to end on Wednesday, May 7.
The Comelec has said pre-voting enrollment is necessary for one overseas voter to be able to cast his/her vote under the OVCS.
