IMMIGRATION operatives apprehended a Chinese at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) as he was about to board his flight out of the country.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said Li Xuanjun, 23, was arrested for fraud in his visa application at NAIA Terminal 1 last January 22 as he was about to board a Philippine Airlines flight to Quanzhou, China.
Li was accosted after his name prompted a hit in the bureau’s automated derogatory check system.
“The hit indicated that the passenger was wanted by the BI for processing a working visa which he acquired through fraud and misrepresentation,” Viado said in a brief statement yesterday, adding that verification by the BI supervisor on duty confirmed that “Li and the person who is subject of the derogatory hit are one and the same.”
He was turned over to the BI border control and intelligence unit for further questioning and was later brought to the BI detention facility in Taguig where he will remain while undergoing deportation proceedings.
“We will be deporting him for being an undesirable alien which stemmed from his acquisition of a visa through dishonest means. His inclusion in the blacklist effectively bans him from re-entering the Philippines,” the BI chief added.
BI records showed that Li’s working visa was canceled in 2023 after an investigation found that he acquired his visa on the petition of a fictitious company. A check with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Trade and Industry confirmed the company was non-existent.
“This finding prompted the BI board of commissioners to declare as null and void his working visa on the ground that the said visa was issued based on false facts and representations of the applicant,” Viado added.
