Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo, chairman of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) National Secretariat for Social Action, described the current state of the Philippines amid a massive flood control corruption scandal as a “time of infamy.”
Bagaforo echoed the words of former U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt following the attack on Pearl Harbor during a Holy Mass at the EDSA Shrine on Sunday.
“Borrowing the words of the U.S. President, we can say that our times today, with the issues of corruption, is the Day of Infamy, the Time of Infamy,” he said.
In his homily, Bagaforo emphasized that the fight against corruption has been a long-standing struggle. “What we are fighting today is corruption, not only this year but for many years in the past,” he said.
The mass was attended by hundreds of lay faithful and members of religious organizations.
The mass was one of several religious and civil actions held nationwide in response to recent revelations of alleged large-scale graft in government infrastructure projects.
