A FILIPINA caregiver who was severely injured last month in an Iranian missile attack in Israel has died, the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv said last night.

“It is with deep sorrow that the Philippine Embassy in Israel announces that Ms. Leah Mosquera, a 49-year-old Filipina caregiver from Negros Occidental, passed away this morning due to severe injuries she sustained when an Iranian missile struck her Rehovot apartment on 15 June,” the embassy said in a statement.

Mosquera was one of eight Filipinos injured in the Iranian missile attack on Israel during the two countries’ 12-day war last month. The seven others suffered only minor injuries and were released from the hospital after receiving treatment.

The embassy said Mosquera underwent multiple surgeries at the Shamir Medical Center for several weeks.

“During this time, she was lovingly cared for by her sister Joy, who also works here in Israel. Joy shared the sad news of her sister’s passing and consented to the release of the information to the public,” the embassy said.

Israel expressed gratitude to Mosquera her and extended condolences to her family.

“Lovingly called Ate Leah by her friends, she would have celebrated her 50th birthday this 29 July. Throughout her many years working in Israel, she dedicated herself to supporting her family back home — an enduring symbol of the courage and sacrifice of overseas Filipino workers around the world,” the embassy added.

There are around 30,000 Filipinos living and working in Israel.

The embassy said it is working on repatriation arrangements and provision of all necessary assistance for Mosquera.

The Israeli Embassy in Manila also extended its condolences to the Mosquera family.

“She was a woman, a daughter, a devoted worker, her life a testament to quiet strength and everyday courage. Her passing reminds us of the shared grief that binds our nations,” the embassy said.

Israel shares the profound grief of her family and the Filipino community. Our commitment is strong, to stand beside her loved ones during this challenging time. May her soul rest in peace,” it added.
