Police cautioned the public against receiving messages from scammers using the name and profile of Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth T. Lucas, Calabarzon Regional director.
In a Facebook post, it was revealed that unidentified persons have been using Lucas’s name and profile picture on social media sites and apps like Viber.
When messaged, the impersonator would bait its victim by first identifying himself as the police general (caller/messenger would have Lucas’s picture on the number) and would proceed by manipulating the latter into giving the former their personal information and clicking a link.
Police condemned the use of a high ranking officials for this purpose and advised the public not to reply or click the number and report these fake messages to authorities.
Further investigation will be conducted for the arrest of the suspect(s) who will face charges of usurpation of authority and if found guilty, they could face between two to 10 years imprisonment.
