CAAP: Super typhoon ‘Nando’ grounds flights, stranding over 3,000 passengers

Super typhoon “Nando” disrupted flights across the Philippines on Monday, stranding thousands of passengers, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said.

Severe weather conditions disrupted 26 flights as of 2:00 pm, affecting 3,061 passengers, aviation officials said.

The disruptions included 25 cancellations and one diversion of 22 domestic and three international flights.

Airline data showed Cebu Pacific, the country’s largest budget carrier, was most affected, with 1,529 passengers affected by nine cancellations. 

Cebu Pacific cancelled nine flights, including domestic routes between Manila and Cauayan, Tuguegarao, and Laoag, and international flights between Manila and Kaohsiung and Taipei.

Cebu Pacific’s subsidiary Cebgo reported 115 passengers affected by two cancellations and one diversion. Cebgo cancelled two round-trip flights between Manila and Busuanga on September 22.

Philippine Airlines cancelled 12 flights, affecting 1,217 passengers. 

The flag carrier’s cancelled routes included flights between Manila and Laoag, Basco, Cauayan, and Tuguegarao, and between Clark and Basco.

Airswift also cancelled two El Nido-Busuanga flights on September 21, though it did not disclose how many passengers were affected.
