A businesswoman lost her Mitsubishi Xpander to a “rentangay” suspect in Rodriguez, Rizal, last Wednesday.

Col. Feloteo Gonzalgo, Rizal provincial police office (PPO) director, said that the victim, sporting the alias Ms. Tañada, reported the loss after the suspect, Charito, 44, failed to pay her after several months of waiting. She said the vehicle was not returned.

An investigation showed that on April 2, 2025, the victim and the suspect entered into an agreement whereby the latter rented the vehicle for ₱35,000 a month. The suspect paid 50% of the agreed amount, promising to pay the rest later.

By the end of April, however, the suspect failed to pay the balance and never returned the vehicle.

Ms. Tañada later visited the suspect’s home and discovered that she was

dealing with multiple complaints for the modus known as “rentangay,” wherein a vehicle is rented and never returned to the owner. A follow-up operation is being conducted for the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the vehicle.
