AMID the devastation caused by the typhoons that hit the country, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) – V has deferred its ongoing wage review in the Bicol Region.
In a statement, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said the Bicol Region wage board suspended the process as recommended by its labor representatives.
“RTWPB-V has decided to defer the wage determination process in the Region due to the destructive impact of the typhoons, following a commendable recommendation from the labor representatives to the RTWPB,” said DOLE.
It said the move would allow business establishments to recover from the devastation caused by the natural calamities.
“The deferment will remain in effect until an appropriate recovery period has concluded,” said DOLE.
The deferment of the RTWPB-V will also allow it to monitor the socio-economic conditions in the Bicol Region for the next three months.
“This course of action from the Board underscores the need to sustain employment and business viability during the recovery period,” said the Department.
The last wage orders for private sector and domestic workers in the Bicol Region took effect back in December 2023.
