Bersamin recommends Nartatez as new PNP chief

EXECUTIVE Secretary Lucas Bersamin has recommended the appointment of PNP Deputy Administrator Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) vice Gen. Nicolas Torre III.

Bersamin’s recommendation was contained in a memorandum to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. dated August 25. 

The Palace or the PNP has yet to confirm the report.

Nartatez is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Tanglaw-Diwa Class of 1992 and has served in various key posts, including PNP regional director of the NCRPO and director for intelligence.

Bersamin coursed his recommendation through Undersecretary Mary Lyn Charisse Lagamon of the Office of the Appointments Secretary.

“The undersigned respectfully requests the President’s signature to the appointment” of Nartatez, the memorandum stated. “For the President’s consideration.”

Earlier in the day, Bersamin announced Torre was relieved, without stating a reason. He released a relief order bearing his signature.
