THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday said overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) bound for Bermuda must possess a valid multiple re-entry visa (MRV) for Canada, the United Kingdom (UK), or the United States (US).
In its Advisory No. 09-2025, the DMW said having an MRV is necessary, aside from a work permit in Bermuda.
“For all Filipino nationals travelling to Bermuda, particularly OFWs, the Bermuda Department of Immigration shall implement the Standard Work Permit Application Form and require proof of a valid multiple re-entry visa (MRV) for the US, UK, or Canada,” said the DMW.
It said all licensed recruitment agencies must help their OFWs bound for the British Overseas Territory in securing such requirements.
“In order to comply with the foregoing requirements, OFWs and/or their licensed recruitment agencies are advised to secure an MRV,” said the DMW.
The department said it issued the Advisory after the Government of Bermuda’s Ministry of Economy and Labour issued the Bermuda Immigration and Protection (Prohibition of Entry) Order 2025, which became effective last January.
The policy requires foreigners entering Bermuda to meet either of two conditions – one is that an individual has travel authorization to enter and re-enter Canada, the United Kingdom, or the United States, with such travel authorization being valid for 45 days from the intended departure date from Bermuda.
Another is that an individual must produce a current letter issued by the government attesting that the person is a spouse of a Bermudian or belongs to Bermuda pursuant to Section 11(5) of the Bermuda Constitution Order 1968.
Data shows there are an estimated 2,000 OFWs based in Bermuda.
