BBM toasts Eala anew

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. yesterday committed the government’s continued support for the development of more Filipino athletes like Alexa Eala, who brought another honor to the country after her historic win in a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournament in Mexico.

In a social media post, the President extended his congratulations to Eala, saying she had written history by becoming the “first Filipino to win a WTA singles (title).”

“Congratulations Alex Eala! Ang iyong tagumpay ay tagumpay ng buong bansa. (Congratulations Alex Eala! Your victory is the triumph of the whole nation),” Marcos said.

“Gagawin natin ang lahat upang mas marami pang atletang Pilipino ang susunod sa yapak na ito at maipakita sa mundo ang galing at puso ng Pilipino (We will do all we can to produce more Filipino athletes who could follow her footsteps and show the world the true talent and heart of Filipinos),” he added.

When Eala made history as the first Filipino to win a Grand Slam match in the US Open two weeks ago, he was also given a huge toast by Marcos.

Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian also congratulated the pretty netter, saying: “Alex Eala has once again made history and raised the Philippine flag on an international court. I join our fellow Filipinos in congratulating Alex…This triumph deserves celebration, and together with our countrymen, I take pride in this inspiring moment for all of us.”

He said Eala has always been the pride of Filipinos and believes that she will achieve more in international competitions.

“Patuloy din siyang nagsisilbing inspirasyon sa mga kabataang atleta na nangangarap na magtagumpay sa kanilang napiling larangan balang araw (She continues to inspire our young athletes who dream also dream of becoming champions in their chosen sports),” he said. – With Raymond Africa
