THE commander of the PNP’s Area Police Command-Western Mindanao has been designated as the PNP’s deputy chief for administration, the second-highest post in the police force.
Lt. Gen. Bernard Banac’s reassignment took effect yesterday based on an order signed by Maj. Gen. Constancio Chinayog, the PNP director for personnel and records management.
The reassignment order was issued “by command” of PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
Banac replaced Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., who, in turn, will assume the post of Banac as commander of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao.
Banac and Nartatez are members of the Philippine Military Academy class 1992 and are in the running to be PNP chief when Torre reaches the retirement age of 56 in March next year.
Banac previously served as PNP spokesman, director of the Eastern Visayas police regional office, PNP director for plans, and PNP director for information and technology.
He also served as PNP director for police community relations – the last post he held before he was named the commander of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao in July last year.
Nartatez previously served as director of the National Capital Region Police Office. He was named PNP deputy chief for administration in October last year.
Nartatez had also held key positions, including PNP director for intelligence, PNP director for comptrollership, and director of the Calabarzon police regional office.
