FORMER senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino yesterday vowed to push for the passage of a measure that will grant a P2,000 monthly universal pension for all senior citizens if he lands a seat in the senatorial race in the May midterm elections.
In a dialogue with the elderly in Legazpi City in the province of Albay, Aquino said the P2,000 monthly pension maybe a small amount but it will go a long way in helping seniors cope with the rising costs of commodities.
“Malaking gaan na rin ito sa mga pamilyang may inaalagaang senior citizen dahil magagamit nila ang pera sa iba pang mahalagang bagay gaya ng pagkain, kuryente, at iba pang bayarin (This will be a big help to families taking care of senior citizens because this can be used in other important things like food, pay for electric bills, and other stuff),” he said.
Aquino also met with various groups in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, and Masbate as part of his campaign sortie in the Bicol region.
Aquino got the highest number of votes in Camarines Sur when he ran for senator in 2019, while he was second in Albay and Sorsogon, and number three in Camarines Norte and Catanduanes, and number six in Masbate.
