TWO senior officers have been designated as the Philippine Army’s vice commander and chief of staff, the second and third highest posts in the Army hierarchy.

Brig. Gen. Efren Morados and Brig. Ronald Jess Alcudia assumed their post as Army vice commander and chief of staff, respectively, last Tuesday in rites at the Army headquarters at Fort Bonifacio.

Army chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, who presided over the ceremony, donned the rank of major general on Morado and Alcudia.

Galido expressed confidence that Morados and Alcudia will help lead the organization in transitioning from external security operations to internal security operations.

“With your proven leadership, wealth of experience and deep understanding, I am confident that you will not only sustain this momentum but raise it to even greater heights,” said Galido.

Galido urged Morados and Alcudia to “focus on the given tasks” in the service of the Philippine Army and the Filipino nation.

Morados and Alcudia succeeded Brig. Gen. Jovencio Gonzales, who had been assigned to the office of Galido — his classmate at the Philippine Military Academy class of 1990.

Gonzales had been designated as the acting Army chief of staff earlier this year. Last May, he was also given the additional post of acting Army vice commander.

Morados, of the PMA class 1992, was the deputy commander of the Army’s 8th Infantry Division based in Samar before his designation as Army vice commander.

Alcudia, of the PMA class 1993, was the commander of the 202nd Brigade before assuming post as Army chief of staff.
