ARMED Forces chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr said the Army’s Special Forces Regiment (Airborne) or SFRA is transforming into a unit capable of addressing multi-domain threats from various domains.

At the celebration of the SFRA’s 63rd foundation anniversary on Saturday at Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija, Brawner commended the elite unit for its accomplishments.

“Mission success has always been anchored on discipline, initiative, and purpose,” said Brawner, who is himself a Special Forces officer.

“The Special Forces Regiment has lived up to its name of being silent professionals,” added Brawner.

Brawner urged the SFRA to elevate its standards “so our nation will always have a unit that it can depend on.”

During the celebration, SFRA personnel showcased their capabilities.

“The SF (Special Forces) demonstrated the various capabilities that we have. One of them is unconventional warfare. A while ago, there was a demonstration on how the Special Forces organizes our resistance forces,” he said.

“And I would like to report especially to our alumni that your Special Forces is doing a great job, not just in the internal security operations, but also in unconventional warfare,” he added.

Brawner acknowledged that the security environment is evolving, thus the SFRA has to also evolve to meet new challenges.

“The world is changing rapidly … We are living in an era of multi-domain warfare where threats come not only with bullets but with bytes and broadcasts,” he said.

Brawner said the SFRA is “not new to transformation.”

“We were born to be agile and adaptable. From unconventional warfare to riverine operations, from intelligence gathering to influence shaping, the Special Forces remain our sharpest edge, our quiet strength,” said Brawner.

Brawner said the military – through force modernization, joint interoperability and partnerships with like-minded nations and academy — is building an SFRA that is “future ready… One that can operate in every environment — land, sea, cyber, and beyond.”

Also during the celebration, the drop zone Magno or “Magno Marker” was also conducted.

It was in honor of retired Maj. Gen. Jose Magno, a revered Special Forces officer, paratrooper and Vietnam war veteran who was instrumental in shaping the SFRA’s early legacy in the 1960s.
