A couple and their 10-year-old son were shot and killed by a group of armed men in San Leonardo town in Nueva Ecija last Wednesday afternoon.
A report from the San Leonardo police station named the victims as businesswoman Aurora Geronimo, 52; her husband, Don Rey, 55; and their son, Demarcus Ezra, a 10-year-old student.
The incident occurred at around 1 p.m. inside the victims’ store in Purok 5, Barangay Mallorca.
Initial police investigation and footage from the closed-circuit television of the store showed the suspects, armed with handguns, entered the store “without provocation.”
“The suspects simultaneously shot the victims in the head, causing their instant death,” a police report said, adding that the suspects took the bag of Geronimo and her cellphone before fleeing on two motorcycles.
One of the suspects, Joey Marcelo, 38, a raiser of wild ducks, was arrested by police operatives last Wednesday night during a follow-up operation in Barangay San Joseph in Peñaranda town, also in Nueva Ecija.
Seized from him was a cal. 45 pistol, a magazine, five rounds of ammunition, and a hand grenade.
Hot pursuit operations are ongoing against the three other suspects.
