Judy Araneta Roxas, matriarch of the Araneta-Roxas political family, passed away on August 26, just 26 days after celebrating her 91st birthday.
She was surrounded by family and loved ones.
The Roxas family confirmed her passing in a statement on social media: ”We are very sad to share that our mother Judy Araneta Roxas passed away peacefully this morning, surrounded by family and loved ones. Please include her in your prayers.”
Born on July 31, 1934 (according to the President Manuel A. Roxas Foundation), Judy was the eldest child of Don Amado and Doña Ester Araneta, part of the prominent Araneta clan from Bago, Negros Occidental.
She served as president of the J. Amado Araneta Foundation and senior vice president of Progressive Development Corporation.
She also chaired the Gerry Roxas Foundation, a scholarship organization established in 1958 in memory of her late husband, Senator Gerry Roxas.
Judy and the late senator had three children: Maria Lourdes, Mar and Gerry, Jr. (deceased).
Senator Mar’s wife, veteran broadcaster Korina Sanchez-Roxas, paid tribute to her mother-in-law in a social media post: ”I love you, Iya. Thank you for everything. Words will never be enough. Farewell for now.”
