THE Department of Foreign Affairs yesterday said another Filipino earlier reported missing in Myanmar is among those killed by a 7.7 magnitude earthquake jolted the country last month.

On Wednesday, the DFA confirmed the identification of the first Filipino fatality in the powerful quake that also rocked neighboring Thailand.

“The DFA is informed by the Philippine Embassy in Yangon of the positive identification of the remains of a second confirmed Filipino victim of the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake which hit Myanmar last March 28,” the DFA said in a statement yesterday.

It said the victim’s family has been informed of the development.

“They have requested the media to respect their privacy in this very difficult time. Out of respect for the wishes of the family, the Department is unable to provide any further details,” it added.

The DFA also said search operations continue for the two other missing Filipinos in Mandalay City.

“We continue to hope for the best for the two remaining Filipinos still unaccounted for in Mandalay, Myanmar,” it said.

The military government in Myanmar on Wednesday said the quake, one of the strongest to hit the country in a century, has killed at least 3,600 persons while about 140 remained missing.

The tremor toppled buildings, flattened communities and left many without food, water and shelter.
