IMMIGRATION officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport barred an American registered sex offender from entering the country recently.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado identified the American as Daniel Allan Macomber, 54, who arrived on board a Korean Airlines flight from Seoul last August 25.
He said information provided by US authorities showed that Macomber was convicted in 2006 for sexual abuse in the second degree, wherein the victim was six years old.
“Philippine immigration laws prohibit the entry of those previously convicted of moral turpitude. This involves registered sex offenders in other countries,” he added.
In the United States, RSOs are individuals convicted of a sex offense and are required by law to register and keep their registration current in each jurisdiction where they live, work, or attend school.
The BI said that foreign RSOs are prevented from entry as part of the BI’s ShieldKids campaign meant to ensure the protection of children against suspected foreign sex predators.
As a result of the denial of entry, Macomber’s name has been added to the BI’s blacklist, effectively barring him from re-entering the country.
