THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW yesterday said 2,456 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been deployed to Kuwait since it reopened its foreign employment market in June 2024.

“(Of the total), 125 are skilled workers and 2,331 are domestic workers. This number also includes 45 direct hires, who were deployed to members of the Kuwaiti Royal Family,” the DMW said in a statement.

It said that the OFWs were deployed to Kuwait in 23 batches.

To recall, the Kuwaiti government indefinitely suspended the visa issuance to Filipino workers in early May 2023, effectively stopping OFW deployment there.

Last June 2024, the DMW announced the reopening of the Kuwait market to OFWs, specifically for professional, skilled, and semi-skilled Filipino workers, as well as domestic workers with prior experience working in Kuwait.

With more OFWs expected to be deployed to Kuwait, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac reminded them of their duties and responsibilities toward their employers.

“Let us adhere to the laws and regulations of Kuwait. (Your) behavior reflects not only on themselves but also on the Philippines as well,” said Cacdac.

On the other hand, he assured that the DMW prioritizes the welfare of OFWs in Kuwait by ensuring that their rights are protected.

“In cases of maltreatment or abuse, workers are encouraged to visit or contact the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) for immediate assistance,” said Cacdac.
