THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has removed all locally funded flood projects from its revised proposed national budget for 2026, secretary Vince Dizon told lawmakers on Wednesday.

Dizon told the budget hearing of the House Committee on Appropriations that locally funded flood control projects worth P252 billion have been taken out of the proposal following the demand of members of the House of Representatives for the DPWH to review and revise its budget proposal.

He said only P15.7 billion foreign assisted flood control projects were retained in the DPWH’s revised budget proposal “and the President understands this.”

Dizon said that as a result of the “tireless” work of the men and women of the department, the revised budget proposal is now 28.9 percent lower than the original proposal of P881 billion.

He said the DPWH’s revised budget of P625.7 billion is the lowest since 2020. “That in itself shows the seriousness of the President to really change ways things are done in the DPWH,” he said.
