HUMANITARIAN aid to communities affected by the easterlies in three Mindanao regions and the continued volcanic unrest in the Negros Island has now reached more than P255.9 million, data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) showed.
The agency continued to provide family food packs and non-food relief items even during the Holy Week to those affected by the continuous rain that resulted in flooding in some areas due to Easterlies in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and the Davao regions as well as those affected by the Kanlaon volcano unrest in the Western and Central Visayas regions.
Monitoring by the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Management, Information, and Communication (DROMIC) as of Sunday showed that more than P204,350 worth of aid had been provided to Region IX (Zamboanga Peninsula), particularly in parts of Dipolog City where three barangays were affected by the continuous rainfall brought by Easterlies that led to flooding.
A total of 335 families or 1,675 persons from Dipolog were affected.
In Region X (Northern Mindanao), continuing heavy rains due to the easterlies resulted in flooding and landslides that have affected the municipalities of Tubod and Sapa, Lanao del Norte; and Kinoguitan in Misamis Oriental.
A total of 2,986 families or 7,785 persons were affected in 21 barangays in Northern Mindanao, which included 50 families or 150 persons who sought temporary shelter in three evacuation centers in Lanao del Norte and 30 families or 100 persons who temporarily stayed with their relatives or friends.
