CEBU Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has added Makati City mayor Abby Binay to the eight senatorial candidates of the administration’s “Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas” that she has initially endorsed.
Binay on Saturday won the endorsement of Garcia, her former colleague in Congress, during the One Cebu party’s northern caravan and proclamation of candidates held in Compostela, Cebu.
“Let us help Abby Binay secure a seat in the Senate of the Republic of the Philippines. Under her leadership, the people of Makati greatly benefited from her transparent and sincere service,” Garcia said in Cebuano.
Garcia said she personally witnessed how hard Binay had worked as a congresswoman, not only for the welfare of her constituents in Makati’s second district but for the entire nation as well.
Prior to endorsing Binay, Garcia endorsed three Alyansa bets: former senators Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, and Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar.
The endorsements of the three Alyansa bets were in addition to the five other Alyansa senatorial candidates that Garcia had previously made, which included reelectionist Senators Ramon Revilla Jr., Pia Cayetano, and Francis Tolentino; former senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, and former interior secretary Benhur Abalos.
Garcia did not endorse the senatorial candidacy of reelectionist Sen. Lito Lapid and Rep. Erwin Tulfo (PL, ACT).
Garcia lauded Binay for making fellow women proud because of her distinctive leadership, calling her “small but terrible,” obviously referring to her height.
In response, Binay thanked the governor and vowed to push for the replication of Makati’s social programs and smart innovations nationwide to promote a better life for all Filipinos.
“Kung ano po ang naibibigay namin sa Makati, nais kong magawa natin sa buong Pilipinas (Whatever we were able to do in Makati, I want to do it nationwide),” Binay said.
She underscored her commitment to push for free access to maintenance medicines and better healthcare services being enjoyed by Makati residents and cited the urgent need to strengthen the educational foundation of the youth by giving greater focus on the daycare program.
