THE National Bureau of Investigation yesterday announced the reclassification in designation of 76 agents that it said would further enhance its operational capabilities.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago said there is an urgent need to reclassify their positions of Special Investigators (SI) and Investigation Agents (IA) to equivalent IA positions under the NBI Modernization Law.
Santiago explained that under the agency’s modernization law, the SI designation would be dissolved once an agent with the said designation retires.
“We talked to the Department of Budget and Management and the Civil Service Commission to have these SI reclassified as Agent III and our request was granted,” Santiago said.
The reclassification, according to Santiago, is retroactive from July 2024, meaning the agents will also get back wages.
The reclassification would see these agents having Salary Grade 22 instead of the current Salary Grade 18.
“It would boost their morale, thereby enhancing their effectiveness in doing their work,” Santiago added.
They may also be in for promotion, but Santiago said that would be down the road if they do a major accomplishment for the agency.
Early this month, the NBI promoted 17 regular employees and regularized 94 job order employees.
